Many refrigerator faults can be avoided. These habits reduce breakdowns, lower your electricity use, and extend the life of your fridge.
Clean the condenser coils.Dust on the coils at the back or underneath makes the compressor work harder. Vacuum them every few months, as Dubai’s dust builds up quickly.
Leave space around the fridge.Keep a few centimetres of clearance at the back and sides so heat can escape. A fridge boxed in tightly runs hotter and longer.
Check the door seals.Close the door on a sheet of paper. If it slides out easily, the gasket is not sealing. Wipe seals with warm soapy water to keep them soft and clean.
Set the right temperatures.Around 3–5°C for the fridge and −18°C for the freezer. Colder settings waste electricity; warmer settings shorten food life.
Let hot food cool first.Putting hot dishes straight in raises the inside temperature and makes the compressor run for longer than it needs to.
Don’t block the air vents.Overpacking shelves against the vents stops cold air circulating, which causes warm spots in the fridge and frost in the freezer.
